Features & Functions
Wondering
what all the functions and features are and how to
make them work? We're here to show you how.
In addition to providing a ground-breaking way of
following a real, live expedition as they tackle the
demands and challenges of climbing Canada's highest
peak, our interactive Live Search Map application
also shows the precise geographical positions of all
of Canada's high-points in many unique and incredible
ways. From the comfort of your school, home or office,
you can:
| - |
see
Route details in a map overlay feature for the
climb up Mount Logan. |
| - |
view
high resolution images of the mountain, and
even take a 3D Tour! |
| - |
see
where Base Camps and High Camps will be located
along the way each day (Check out the "Expedition
Route" section. |
- |
you
can "mouse-over" each Camp to view
descriptions of the Camps where the team will
be staying at, as well as a tentative time-table
of when they expect to be at each camp. You
can even listen to Audio Clips prepared by
James describing what they expect to encounter
at each camp as they move higher. |
| - |
under
the Follow The Climb: By Day section, you
will be able to view Photos, Audio (&
maybe Video) Clips and Daily Journals uploaded
from the Team to the site each day. |
| - |
track
the Team Live on the mountain when they start
the climb with a GPS carried by James |
| - |
get
latitude, longitude and elevation readings
as well as distance covered and rate of travel |
| - |
tune
in to watch Video and Audio Broadcasts from
the Team ... Live from the Mountain to your
Class! |
| - |
be
one of the lucky Schools/Classes who also
get to take part in the Broadcast in an Interactive,
One-On-One session. See and talk with James
and the Team Live, ask questions, learn what
it's like to be in freezing temperatures at
altitude! (Please keep in mind that the quality
of these broadcasts will be dependent to a
large extent upon the strength of satellite
connection they have at any given moment.) |
| - |
register
your School or Class and join the Expedition
to take part in Lesson Plans and Higher Education
projects |
| - |
view
locations of other schools from across the
country and around the world who have also

Using The Menu/Navigation System
Simply expand and collapse the left-hand menu system
to view the many great options and features available.
If you see a "+"
sign next to a topic, that means there are sub-menu
items under that category. Simply click the item or
the "+"
sign to expand and view more items. Click a "-"
sign to collapse and close a category and shrink the
menu.
For some menu items, new content will also appear
on the right side of the screen as well as in the
middle. This additional information is context sensitive
and will provide links to interesting blogs, daily
audio clips, and great photos sent in by the team
each day.
If a map comes up in the main screen when you choose
a menu item, you will often see a PIN
in the middle of the map. You can "mouse-over"
these pins to produce a "bubble" which holds
additional information about that PIN location on
the map.
Using The Maps
Please note, if you click on a menu item that is supposed
to bring up a map in the middle screen, depending
on the computer system you have this can often take
a few moments. Please be patient while the map loads,
especially if loading a "Collection" such
as the list of Schools or Canadian Parks.
While in the Live Maps environment, you have the ability
to Zoom In and Zoom Out.
To do this, you can use the Map Control Panel (top
left corner of the map) by clicking on the "+"
or "-" buttons at the top and bottom of
the control panel. You can also click on a point in
between the "+" and "-" to do
a quicker/larger scale zoom. Another option is to
use the scroll wheel on your mouse (if you have one).
Rolling forward zooms in, rolling backward (towards
you) zooms the map out.
Note: the map may take a few seconds to respond and
refresh to zooming commands, especially if you have
a slower computer system.
While viewing maps such as the Mount
Logan map and the Planned
Route in the Expedition section, you also have
the ability/option to switch from 2D to 3D
mode. This function is also found at the
top of the Map Control Panel. To view 3D, your computer
system must meet minimum requirements. These will
pop up in a separate window if you need to install
the necessary software to view the maps in 3D, which,
by the way, is a Very Cool feature!
